Join fashion designer and educator Monisola Omotoso for a creative weekend of pattern cutting and garment construction. Using the free Kimono-Inspired Dress and Victoriana Sleeve patterns as a foundation, participants will learn how to combine and adapt existing designs to create an elegant pussy bow blouse with dramatic cuffed sleeves. The workshop focuses on developing practical pattern-cutting skills while exploring how simple adaptations can transform one style of pattern into a different garment.
Over two days, you will learn how to adapt the pre-cut Kimono-Inspired Dress pattern by shortening it into a blouse and converting the original V-neckline into a round neckline. You will then draft a pussy bow neck tie, transform the Victoriana Sleeve using slash-and-spread techniques to introduce additional fullness, and draft a cuff pattern to complete the sleeve design.
Once the pattern adaptations have been completed, you will cut and sew your blouse using professional dressmaking techniques. Construction methods will include French seams for a clean, high-quality finish, along with the application of poppers to the cuffs.
The workshop is suitable for confident beginners and intermediate dressmakers who would like to develop their understanding of pattern adaptation while producing a finished garment. Throughout the weekend, Monisola will demonstrate each stage of the process, providing guidance on pattern cutting, garment construction and finishing techniques.
By the end of the workshop, you will have completed your own pussy bow blouse and gained a range of transferable pattern-cutting skills, including neckline adaptations, sleeve development, slash-and-spread techniques and cuff drafting.
Please bring:
- Your own sewing machine
- Basic sewing kit (fabric scissors, paper scissors, pins, tape measure, pencils, ruler and pattern master)
- Fabric and matching thread (fabric requirements will be supplied upon booking)
